About Utilities Commission,
City of New Smyrna Beach

The Utilities Commission, City of New Smyrna Beach, (UCNSB) provides, electric, water, wastewater, reuse water and internet service in the greater New Smyrna Beach area. We have approximately 24,000 electric customers, 23,000 water customers, 18,000 wastewater customers, 600 reuse water customers, and 2,400 internet customers.

UCNSB was established in 1965 and chartered in 1967 through the passage of Chapter 67-1754, Laws of Florida, Special Acts of 1967 (House Bill 1669) which amended the Charter of the City of New Smyrna Beach to create the Utilities Commission. The Utilities Commission consists of five members who are appointed by the City Commission. Each commissioner is a qualified elector and freeholder in New Smyrna Beach.

The Utilities Commission is funded solely through utility revenues and is not a taxing authority. The FY 2007 budget is $55.7 million. There are approximately 165 regular, full-time employees directed by a General Manager/CEO, Robert J. Rodi, who is hired under contract by the Utilities Commission.
